2. Workflow Agenda, Taranaki F2F DFI: 2021

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy? What does the Learn look like at YOUR school?
- Learn looks different at each stage of our school. Primarily learn is hevaily relational based in the junior school and over time at WHS evolves towards a growing independance in learners - at least that is the hope! Real world and authentic contexts are very important at all levels. I admire the explicit and intentional focus that Manaiakalani uses.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
- Google Keep - Read text from a picture. Handy feature.
- It's been a long time since working with html and embedding etc. Worked out the default embed ratios were not ideal as it distorted the preview. Adjusted to 640x360 seemed about right.
- Calendar KB shortcuts might be handy.
What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
- My team are pretty well versed with all the items covered today.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
- No a great deal. Uninterrupted time to explore things and admin tasks is helpful. Always nice to be out of the office.
Kia ora ano Daryl,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your reflections on the days content. There is definitely a progression in learning from the junior to the senior school at secondary level. I see that in my own boys - in Year 9 it was all about the teacher that stood in front of the class (cool teacher, class was 'fun') but as they rise up the levels it becomes about who is offering the knowledge / skills they think they need for their future choices. I guess our challenge as secondary educationists becomes how do we hold the attention of our rangitahi when in all honesty, much of what they need to learn knowledge wise is available on YouTube and in online courses etc. How do we curate an environment where it is safe to try stuff, make mistakes, fail without being harassed (either by adults or by peers) and then emerge confident you can make it in the big wide world? Not too much to ask aye? Nā, M
Kia ora Daryl,
ReplyDeleteI was quite interested to read about how the Learn changes as students move through your school. I think it's quite important if we are wanting to prepare our students to continue to be successful learners beyond the secondary education system.
Looking forward to continuing to work with you tomorrow.
