9. External Recognition

WWW

What has worked for me since the last time we met?

Really enjoyed the coding session. Brought back lots of good memories. Spent some time doing some of the activities with my younger kids who loved them too, especially compute-it.

What hasn’t worked (or made sense)?

No worries here. More time to prepare for today would have been nice but all good.

What do you need help with?

I’m ok I think.

Bling your blog

Think about how you will use your Blog moving forward and set it up to reflect your personal ‘style’.

I used blogger some time ago (maybe 10 years) as a professional portfolio. Alongside tumblr, pinterest and myportfolio over time they become increasingly dull and less glossy. This is a shame.

Check your labels and STPs

Time to reflect and share with colleagues one more time

Consider including the responses you gave to our survey, you will have received an email with these responses.

DFI Feedback

Let us know how this opportunity to attend the Digital Fluency Intensive has impacted you positively. We are thinking of the whole package here - the digital, the group, Manaiakalani, learning using the LCS pedagogy etc etc

Group was great. Real nice to meet other professionals but also work with my own staff in a PD setting as a learner also. While there was not a lot of new stuff for me personally it was good to revisit some aspects of the tools. I also thought it was good to do deep dives esp around the tech curriculum as we dont' often get time to do these things.

Are there any highlights that have impacted your life, your practice, your workflow... *

Not particularly due to prior knowledge. I think this would be the only drawback of the course - that it was targeted at semi-new users. I have seen other staff get heaps out of it but feel it could have been delivered in half the time for a user like me. Perhaps there could be entry testing or surveys - and an intermediate user DFI available. Quick shot or even DFEMI (even more intensive)

Let us know how you think we could improve or do this better to support the next cohort.  *

I thought the content was really well delivered and paced for most teachers. I personally enjoyed the online session better because I could be more comfortable. The primary school environment was physically not ideal for a long day doing PD. Finally I'm not sure if blogger is the best platform for this work but can understand the reasons to use it. It seems a bit stuck in the past.

Is there anything else you would like to say or let us know?

No think I covered it all off. Appreciate the work that has gone in to this program and thanks to the facilitators.

4. Dealing with Data

Sharing

  • Share to Learn - looking for feedback/reflection
  • Share to Finish Learning - Sharing pushes kids to complete tasks (ABC - always be closing)

My Maps

  • Importing data (xls)
  • Route optimization / deliveries

Sheets

  • The extension session was great. I thought Sparkline was cute.

Experimenting with overlaying two types of chart.

Looking at Manvi's blog posts shows that he is an erratic producer of blogs. He has worked in clusters or flurries of activity but not consistenly through the 4 years. I am guessing this could be related to his workflow, behaviour etc. A deep dive might be able to show what type of posts he preferred or the activities related to the high activity months. This might give some clues towards engaging Manvi. Two of the most productive months clearly relate to COVID19 lockdowns.
Zooming out didnt' really provide much more information.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
  • Interconnected relationships between google tools.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
  • Have used lots of today's tools previously so it was a good reminder of using them. Some of them are once a year type tasks so not everyday. As such I can just refresh myself with a quick google read.
What did I learn that could be used with my learners, how could they use it?
  • Student portofolios (sites) use of embedding charts (live).
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
  • Some of the sheets extension information was great. Hopefully I will remember to use them.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy? What does the Learn look like at YOUR school?

  • I can appreciate the growing capacity of my school with LEARN. It's been encouraging to see more action in this space from staff that have been throught the DFI process.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

  • Quietube is great. If I was teaching I would use this bookmark often.
  • Already used copy/edit url trick
  • It was fun to do some creative tasks and get some increased understanding of the tools available in G.
  • I doubt I will use any of these beyond today as I have other workflows to achieve the outcomes.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

2. Workflow Agenda, Taranaki F2F DFI: 2021

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy? What does the Learn look like at YOUR school?

  • Learn looks different at each stage of our school. Primarily learn is hevaily relational based in the junior school and over time at WHS evolves towards a growing independance in learners - at least that is the hope! Real world and authentic contexts are very important at all levels. I admire the explicit and intentional focus that Manaiakalani uses.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

  • Google Keep - Read text from a picture. Handy feature.
  • It's been a long time since working with html and embedding etc. Worked out the default embed ratios were not ideal as it distorted the preview. Adjusted to 640x360 seemed about right.
  • Calendar KB shortcuts might be handy.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

  • My team are pretty well versed with all the items covered today.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

  • No a great deal.  Uninterrupted time to explore things and admin tasks is helpful. Always nice to be out of the office.

  • Fourth or fifth time through this narrative.
  • Community centric approach to overcoming access to modern pedagocial approaches, appropriate technology and lifting acheivement in low decile schools.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

  • Groups - option to choose digest is a handy feature.
  • Colour coding folders in Drive. Reminded of this tool.
  • Mote: Voice notes - could be very helpful.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

  • Not much new stuff other than above.
  • Good to be able to spend some time using the drawing tool.
  • Time to use some tools again was good and refreshed my general capabilities on google platform.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

  • Very little as the tools I use in my personal life are significantly different and more dynamic environments. I especially try to avoid the extensive use of writing in most contexts.
